Kintaikyo Bridge and the Nishiki River seen from a riverside hotel

Where to Stay in Iwakuni

Stay the night and the bridge is yours after dark. Here is where to sleep.

Most visitors see Iwakuni on a day trip from Hiroshima. Staying over changes it: the bridge illuminated in the evening, the riverbank empty at sunrise, dinner in a ryokan and, in summer, cormorant fishing outside the door.

There are three sensible choices. By the bridge you get atmosphere and views in a small number of traditional inns. By Iwakuni Station you get modern business hotels, lower prices and the easiest onward travel. Or base yourself on Miyajima or in Hiroshima and visit Iwakuni for the day.

Guest scores below come from Trip.com and change constantly; we do not quote nightly rates because they move with season and demand. Every card links out to Trip.com for live prices and availability.

How to choose

  • Want the bridge to yourself? Stay beside it, and ask for a river-view room when you book.
  • Travelling by rail pass on a tight schedule? A hotel by Iwakuni Station or Hiroshima Station keeps things simple.
  • Doing Miyajima and Iwakuni on consecutive days? Miyajimaguchi sits neatly between the two.
  • Coming for cherry blossom or Golden Week? Book as early as you can — rooms near the bridge are few.

Booking tips

  • Ryokan usually price per person with dinner and breakfast; check what is included before comparing.
  • Tatami rooms with futon bedding are the norm in the inns by the bridge — lovely, but tell the hotel if you need beds.
  • Shared hot-spring baths may have rules about tattoos; ask in advance if this affects you.
  • The last buses from the bridge to the stations are not late. If you stay by the station and want to see the illumination, check the timetable or plan on a taxi.

Where to stay: FAQs

Is it worth staying overnight in Iwakuni?

Yes, if you enjoy quiet places. In the evening the bridge is lit up and almost deserted, and a ryokan dinner by the river is a pleasure in itself. If you prefer city life, stay in Hiroshima and visit for the day.

Are there hotels right next to Kintaikyo Bridge?

Yes — a hot-spring hotel and a few small ryokan stand at the eastern end of the bridge. There are not many rooms, so they fill early in spring and autumn.

Should I stay near Iwakuni Station or near the bridge?

Near the bridge for atmosphere; near the station for convenience and price. The two are about 15–20 minutes apart by bus.

Can I stay on Miyajima and visit Iwakuni?

Easily. Take the ferry to Miyajimaguchi and the train on to Iwakuni, about 20–25 minutes, then the bus to the bridge.

When should I book for cherry blossom season?

As early as possible — ideally a few months ahead for a room by the bridge in late March and early April.
